Inspecting for surface defect. Liquid Penetrant Testing involves coating the test object with visible dye solution. After allowing the dye solution to sit for a pre-determined time, the excess dye is removed and a developer is applied. The developer draws the dye out of any surface imperfections, thus revealing the flaw.
